The UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID)

"Reviewed UK Government’s governance programmes leading to changes in the way DFID does its work"

Policy Work

The goal:

To help improve the impact of DFID’s governance programmes.

Background:

DFID has long supported programmes aimed at promoting more open and effective governance. In 2010, DFID commissioned a study of the effectiveness of these programmes to help improve their future performance.

Our work:

We formed part of the team that completed the study. Working with DFID staff and other consultants to complete the review, we focused in particular on how other donors had evaluated their governance programmes and the performance of DFID’s justice and security sector reform projects. As a result of this work, DFID is now implementing a series of recommendations to improve its support to governance work.

Communications Work

Improved internal communications tools for a UK Government Department.

The goal:

To help DFID’s aid effectiveness team improve their communications with the rest of the department.

Background:

DFID’s aid effectiveness team put considerable effort into communicating with other parts of the organisation but wanted to ensure their briefings and newsletters were having maximum impact.

Our work:

We worked with the team to ensure that key messages were delivered to the right people at the right time. The team’s communications are now clearer, shorter and more focused.
