Banking on Change

"Trio’s detailed knowledge of the post-2015 process and experience in designing and delivering international campaigns were invaluable to us in thinking through our strategy. Their support helped us prioritise opportunities and work out who we should be targeting and how. It is possible to waste a lot of energy on such processes and Trio helped us avoid that by working with us to plan an effective and realistic approach.” Alice Allan, head of advocacy, CARE International UK"

The goal:

To help the Banking on Change partnership develop a strategy to launch an international Charter on linking the world’s poorest savers to the formal banking system and to influence the post-2015 goals and targets.

The background:

2.5 billion people do not have a bank account but would benefit from access to financial services. Since 2009, Barclays, CARE International and Plan International have been working together to link savings groups in some of the world’s poorest communities to formal banking services. In 2014, they wanted to launch a Charter, setting out international principles to encourage others to responsibly link more savers to banks. They also want to make sure that the post-2015 goals and targets that will replace the Millennium Development Goals include reference to financial inclusion.

Our work:

We helped Banking on Change develop a strategy for the Charter. We also facilitated a workshop aimed at deciding the partnership’s approach to influencing the post-2015 process.
